The Department of Computer Science is creating a new cyber-security major to meet a high regional demand for this specialty. The Department is part of a collaborative team of faculty and staff members from across our institution which has recently been awarded funds to build a cyber range on campus, and Bridgewater State University will soon serve as a regional center for cyber security in Massachusetts. The department is a mid-sized, cordial, collaborative, and innovative group of 8 full-time faculty members. The Department prepares students for exciting careers and graduate school through high quality instruction in small classes and close collaboration between faculty members and students on projects. The goal of the Department is to provide students with a strong foundation in computer science and cyber security, one that also promotes critical thinking and lifetime learning. The department currently offers a Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Science at Bridgewater State which is ABET accredited. The department has developed a minor in cyber security and is currently working on a new B. S. degree in the field. The Department also offers a MS degree in Computer Science and, in addition to the minor in cyber security, offers minors in computer science and computer engineering.
Bridgewater State University is a teaching-intensive university located in Southeastern Massachusetts between Boston, MA and Providence, RI. The University is a liberal arts institution with a strong commitment to the sciences. Successful candidates will be faculty members who can work with their colleagues to help meet the mission of the department in serving and supporting our racially and ethnically diverse campus community.
Responsibilities include teaching a variety of undergraduate- and master’s-level courses in cyber security, working with existing faculty to build and strengthen the new cyber security undergraduate major, advising undergraduates and supervising MS students, participating in cyber-security curriculum development including ABET accreditation work, as well as engaging in ongoing scholarship and professional activity. Candidate must demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of students from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of abilities.
Applicants should have an earned Ph.D. in cyber security or a closely related STEM field such as computer science, information technology, applied math, computer engineering, or electrical engineering with a focus in cyber security. Alternatively, applicants with an earned Ph.D. in relevant fields are welcomed provided they have significant industry experience in cybersecurity and a solid technical background. ABD applicants will be considered.

Candidates with research experience on cybersecurity related projects or practical experience running a cyber range, using forensic tools, or other hands on cyber security work are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates with experience in cyber-security curriculum development are also encouraged to apply.
Candidates who involve undergraduates in research and projects, or do outreach to pre-college students are especially encouraged to apply.
