Job description : Senior Security Engineer
As a security engineer , you are tasked with continuously discovering, communicating and explaining security vulnerabilities to product teams, and automating this where practical. In a multi-product, continuous delivery environment, they must meet the challenge of providing the most effective vulnerability information across teams.
Responsible for assessing the security of internal as well as public facing systems at the Ministry of Justice, and communicating risks in a clear manner
Carrying out security vulnerability and penetration testing on products, consulting on secure architecture and advising incident management
Recommending fixes for vulnerabilities in products, infrastructure, and processes.
Skills & Qualifications
Ability to work closely with product teams to ensure a secure development life cycle is built in to delivery of web applications.
Evidence of ability to conduct vulnerability and penetration testing
Understanding of virtualisation and cloud technologies. Knowledge of Amazon Web Services, infrastructure and cloud security
Awareness of automated testing and continuous integration tools
Experience of use of open source technologies and tools used to conduct penetration testing
Evidence of exposure to security and penetration testing tools. Understanding of Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP). and other security standards or best practices
CHECK Team member equivalent, or awareness of methodologies used.
Strong interest in niche area of information security such as networking, forensics or cryptography.
Experience of agile working environments.
Awareness/experience of physical Security issues.
Awareness of social engineering.
Static program analysis skills.
Experience of fuzzing used as a means of testing web applications.
Salary, Working Arrangements & Further Information
Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on ‘modernised’ terms in their current post or onto ‘unmodernised’ MoJ terms if they are on ‘unmodernised’ terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made.
