This role sits within our Financial & Risk (“F&R”) business.  On January 30, 2018, Thomson Reuters announced that it signed a definitive agreement to enter into a strategic partnership with private equity funds managed by Blackstone related to the company’s F&R business. As part of the transaction, Thomson Reuters has agreed to sell a 55% majority stake in Financial & Risk and will retain a 45% interest in the business.  Thomson Reuters will maintain full ownership of its Legal, Tax & Accounting and the Reuters News businesses. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of the year and is subject to specified regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. When the transaction closes, this role will be included in the new F&R entity.

We are currently seeking an Senior Cyber Security Engineer to be located in Nottingham, UK. This position will report into the Vice President, Security Engineering in F&R’s Information Security & Risk Management Organization.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn and provide skilled technical support for our infrastructure security toolset as well as our future security services within the technical operations environment.

Essential Responsibilities:

Consulting with our internal and external partners to engineer security solutions and services that meet their needs
Design and engineering of endpoint protection tools such as: Trend anti-virus, McAfee anti-virus. Data Loss Prevention (DLP). Deep Security Manager and encryption tools, e.g. Vormetric and Symantec FDE.
Operational 3rd line support, e.g. Responding to raised alerts, troubleshooting, root cause analysis and problem resolution
Design, develop, test, deploy, debug and document all software security components in our enterprise and cloud security platforms
Ensure the platforms architecture and design is adaptable to changing business requirements and network device and cloud provider capabilities
Mentor colleagues on effective, performant and secure hybrid cloud networking
Write technical specifications based on conceptual design and business requirements
Evaluate new and emerging technologies for implementation
Quickly prototype proposed ideas to determine suitability and illustrate your concepts with working code
Drive technical implementation and infrastructure standards within the team through design and code reviews
Strong technical expertise and troubleshooting skills for large scale enterprise systems and software
Communicate timelines, service dependencies, resource constraints and progress with key stakeholders quickly and effectively
Foster and maintain cross-functional relationships with both technical and non-technical resources with a focus on data driven decision making


Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science / similar degree or 4 years of equivalent work experience
Experience implementing enterprise security solutions such as WAF, IPS, Anti-DDOS, and SIEM
Experience in a software engineering role
Programming or scripting experience in any of the following: Perl, Python, VB Script, or Power Shell
Extensive experience designing, building, deploying and operating software products that present practical and understandable solutions to complex problems
Demonstrated ability to conceive, manage and complete software deliverables
Experience working in large network environments and hybrid cloud infrastructure landscapes
Expert level understanding of network, platform, enterprise, cloud (AWS & Azure) & security technologies
Expert level understanding of IP networking, network security patterns and traffic scaling
Competent and confident working with Ruby, Golang or Python running on Docker, Kubernetes and Linux
Experience with agile development methodologies, rapid application development, and project management
Demonstrated leadership skills in a fast-paced, team-driven environment
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Effective communication and strong collaboration skills
Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 15%

Desired Characteristics:

Significant experience automating physical and virtual network security on platforms like AWS, F5, Checkpoint, OpenStack, Azure, Google Cloud
Expert at server-side application development using languages like Ruby, Golang or Python
Proficient with RESTful services and data interchange using XML, JSON, Protobuf or MessagePack
Experience creating and managing projects in revision control, including git and Github
Experience with large-scale distributed architectures, SOA and REST and messaging patterns and platforms
Understanding of Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA and REST), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS)
Deep understanding of HTTP, TCP, DNS, UDP, IPv4/IPv6 networking and protocols
Experience with Agile, including Scrum and/or Kanban
Understanding of how DevOps and DevSecOps influences software development and operations practices and delivery techniques
Ability and desire to mentor peers both within and outside your team
Certifications such as Security+, CISSP, CISM, and GCTI
